RESPONSIBLE OPPOSITION AND SURVIVAL OF NIGERIA'S DEMOCRACY

-By Henry Omunu.
It’s the accepted democratic practice globally for opposition parties to question the actions and in-actions of the government in power in relation to the survival of the state and the socio economic well-being of the citizens. In other words, the opposition is expected to hold the ruling government accountable to the public.

THE WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM AND THE MISSING $20 BILLION

-By Ayodele Adegbuyi
There is no doubt that politics is in the air because of the fast approaching 2015 elections. Politicians can do anything, including destroying the image of the country they aspire to govern just to score cheap political points and discredit the sitting government.

HEALTH... HOW GOODLUCK HAS FARED

-Chizaram Stella Eni
With all the challenges facing the nation both politically and socio-economically, the administration of His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has not failed to fulfil substantially, the promises made on the transformation of the Nigerian health sector, moving the country to a higher ground amongst other African nations.

Nigeria aspires to join the league of super nations by 2020 and the President's resolve to attain the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015 through his transformation agenda is no doubt, commendable and recommendable to other countries in Africa. The health sector to me, is the most outstanding and critical part of the targets set by the MDG framework of year 2000, focusing critically on combating the spread of the HIV/AIDS disease, and improving maternal and child health.

This human rights violation keeps rising by the day and has now spread to our secondary institutions, causing unrest in the school system for both the young students, and the school teachers. This issue has become a cause for concern in Nigeria, and to our neighbouring countries in West Africa.

NIGERIA RECEIVES FOREIGN AID AGAINST INSURGENCY IN NIGERIA

The ruthless invasion by the Boko Haram sect of the Government Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, has become a subject of great concern for the Nigerian government. The international community has also joined forces to end the menace and help secure the freedom and safe return of the abducted school girls.

There have been series of attacks in Nigeria masterminded by the insurgent group since the death of their leader, Yusuf Mohammed. Things came to a head when over 200 girls were abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State on the 15th of April, 2014. They were part of the 250 students who were sitting for the WAEC/SSCE. The sect, according to sources, attacked Chibok town, a distance of 141 kilometers from the capital of the troubled Borno state, Maiduguri at about 10pm. The invasion of the town resulted in monumental loss of lives and property.

THE WORLD SUPPORTS THE #BRINGBACKOURGIRLS CAMPAIGN

The recent kidnapping of the Chibok school girls by the deadly Boko Haram sect has become a major focus in the present Nigerian situation and it has drawn a lot of attention within the country and worldwide. The girls were abducted from their school premises while preparing to sit for the West African Examinations Council papers.

Over the last few weeks, millions around the world have joined the social media campaign asking for the release of the girls.
