Ekiti Election Victory For Democracy in Nigeria - NSCI

- Shows Goodluck is Committed to Democracy

The National Social Contract Initiative (NSCI) heartily congratulates the Governor- elect of Ekiti state, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, on his resounding victory in the governorship election that took place on Saturday, June 21, 2014.

We state that “Fayose’s victory represents the desire of the people of Ekiti State to vote for a candidate of their choice, who is in tune with the aspirations of the people at the grassroots, who will bring about the much desired change, is independent minded and who is not tied to the apron strings of any political godfather”.

The NSCI therefore, congratulates President Goodluck Jonathan for once again showing the dogged commitment towards the conduct of credible elections and ensuring that the votes of Nigerians count, as exemplified in the Edo and Ondo States governorship elections respectively.
His disposition has gone a long way in establishing that the President is a rare democrat who believes and adheres to democratic tenets of free, fair and credible polls.

While we thank the people of Ekiti State for their political maturity, the high turn-out of voters and the peaceful conduct of the election, the NSCI also commends the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the credible, free and fair conduct of the governorship election.
This has in no small measure increased the confidence of Nigerians in the integrity of the electoral body in conducting credible elections in the future.

Furthermore, it is also pertinent to salute the security agencies for their immense contributions in ensuring the peaceful conduct of the election.

The NSCI commend the spirit of sportsmanship exhibited by the incumbent Governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi, and the candidate of the Labour Party, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, for congratulating the governor – elect by accepting the outcome of the election and respecting the wishes of the people.
