The National Social Contract Initiatives, NSCI, commends the
former Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida for his patriotic stance over
the terror attacks and violence in the North in particular and other parts of
the country in general.
His appeal to all Nigerians, irrespective of political
affiliations to support President Goodluck Jonathan and the Federal Government in
tackling the activities of the Boko Haram sect is not only commendable, but
patriotic, nationalistic and befitting the status of an elder statesman.
Also, we commend the former military ruler for condemning Wednesday’s
twin bomb attacks in Kaduna where former Head of State and a leader of the All
Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari, narrowly escaped death.
We urge all Nigerians to emulate Gen. Babaginda by seeing
the current state of insecurity in the country as a national problem and not a
problem that is peculiar to any particular region, religion or tribe in
Nigeria.
The NSCI supports the statement credited to the former
leader that all Nigerians by virtue of our nationality should be free to live
anywhere in the country without molestation, harassment and intimidation.
Nigerians must therefore, see the charge by Gen. Babaginda
for all hands to be on deck in stopping the acts of terror by a select and
misguided few as a clarion call to help the Jonathan administration tackle the
insecurity that is threatening the unity and prosperity of the our dear country.
To this end, we earnestly urge other prominent Northern
opinion and religious leaders to borrow a leaf from Babangida’s patriotic call
and support President Jonathan and the security forces in ending the insurgency.
“The latest attack by the insurgents which appears to have
been targeted at eliminating Buhari has shown that nobody is safe from the evil
machinations of the terror group.”
We therefore, solicit for prayers for our President and the
security forces for God to give them the wisdom and ability to defeat the agents
of terror and wipe out all forms of insecurity in our dear country.
Meanwhile, we condemn the provocative and unfounded
statements of former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Malam
Nasir El-Rufai, accusing President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP, of an assassination attempt on the life of former Head of State,
Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
It has been observed that El-Rufai has the penchant for making
wild and reckless allegations that he cannot substantiate all in a bid to score
cheap political points as well as seeking unnecessary relevance.
We task our security agencies to take note of his actions
which in our view, are capable of heightening the already tense situation in
the country and taking appropriate steps to stop the ex-minister from doing
further damage to the tranquility and peace that Nigerians are presently
enjoying.
We advise him to desist from further acts capable of
inflaming passions and frayed nerves and that he should always be conscious in
thinking about promoting national unity and peace.
End.
Signed:
Onazi Adadu Onazi
Assistant National Publicity Secretary, NSCI
Gen. IBB by his comments has shown what s great statesman he is...his call should be a rallying cry for every peace loving Nigerian to join forces with the FG to end the insurgency. As for El-Rufai, his political ambition is beclouding his sense of judgement.
ReplyDeleteIts nice to hear this come from him because Gen Buhari himself confirmed that there is fire on the mountain, its not about terrorism, politics, race, party or faction. people like @elrufai should be careful because he may soon become a target if care is not taken,

ReplyDeleteAll Nigerians should comment IBB for his statesmanship while El Rufai should be condemned for his stupidity
ReplyDeleteCan someone kindly tell El-Rufai to grow up & stop blabbing on everything that's happing in Nig especially politics. Am bored of his "tiraka" audience seeking. He made soo much noise APC lost in Ekiti... Twitter & Fb will soon start to pay him weekly allowee
ReplyDeletehow come they suddenly now want to say something? is it because its beginning to hit close to home? when innocent people were dying and their parts scattered everywhere, i didn't hear any of them speaking. now that they have become targets they now want to speak. as for el rufai, He reminds me of a child who is seeking unnecessary attention. so let them spare me the hypocrisy.
ReplyDeleteEl-Rufai is obviously just a child. Anyways, IBB has done well but i hope he continues in the spirit of oneness also, encourage other northern leaders to do same. Despite the fact it came late as a man who should lead by example i would still say KUDOS!!!
ReplyDeleteFor me northern elders have done little or nothing to help this present administration fight these insurgents, why should I commend IBB or Buhari....... for coming out after 5years to condemn the activities of these insurgents?
ReplyDeleteFor that Lil' man El-rufia I think he is becoming a liability in the country’s political system, if he is broke, he should beg Jonathan for a job, rather than engaging in blackmail.
To whom much is given, much is expected. Interestingly some elder statesmen will use this means to score cheap political goals,Kudos to IBB, a clear sign of what a former leader and good citizens should be like. As said by IBB, let's support Goodluck Jonathan to bring safety and peace in the country.
ReplyDeleteThis is not the era in which Nigerians are under-informed. Access to social media of every kind has made it such that we can see for ourselves, and be the judge of what to believe as far as occurrences in the media go. I commend the admonition by Gen Babangida and fully support him. I hope every well meaning Nigerian will do the same and stop wasting our time by bandying blame after blame on political opponents. Nigeria belongs to us all.
ReplyDeleteNo matter the challenge, personal interest or religious leaning, statesmen must sacrifice for their nation. IBB's comment must be seen in this light as coming from deep and wholesome thought. I commend him for lending his voice to the call for an end to the senseless killings and maiming of the poor and innocent.
ReplyDeleteWhile calling on all well meaning Nigerians to join in the call and support the President to bring an end to the destruction of our nation, one would not forget to call the likes of El-Rufai, to have a rethink and repent of their mischievous and unpatriotic attitude of fanning the embers of disunity. We expect that he should know better; at the rate he is yapping peace and unity will continue to elude us. God forbid!
Gen. IBB absolved himself by his recent comment on the Bomb Blast in Kaduna that killed many innocent Nigerians. He proved to the world and Nigerians that he remains a leader who holds the interest of Nigerians at heart. As for El Rufai, he has become a political jobber whose perm kernnel was cracked by benevolent spirit and refused to be humble.
ReplyDeleteI no believe sey Buhari hands clean at all. Forget that mata, u can frame up ur assassination (a make believe). Bone! Na Naija we dey
ReplyDeleteits shameful how the so called elder statesmen , cannot seem to prioritize Nigeria over their personal interest, grateful still to the stand taken by IBB to position himself on the pro Nigerian band wagon.
