- Condemns
attempts by APC to promote anarchy
The National Social Contract Initiative, NSCI, is calling on
the Federal Government and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,
to provide adequate security during Saturday’s governorship election in Osun
State so that citizens of the state can exercise their voting rights without
hindrance and ensure the election are conducted in a free and fair atmosphere.
Also, we urge the Independent National Electoral Commission,
INEC, to ensure the early arrival of voting materials at the various polling
units to ensure the early commencement of voting and to put all necessary
logistics in place to ensure a hitch-free poll.
Furthermore, we implore the electoral umpire to make sure
that all registered voters receive their voters’ cards, and ensure that no
eligible voter in the state is disenfranchised on account of the commission’s
failure to distribute the voters’ card.
The NSCI therefore, charges staff of INEC, security agencies
and all political parties taking part in the governorship election and their
candidates to promote an atmosphere that will be conducive for the conduct of
credible, free and fair election by adhering to the guidelines established for
the election.
We however, express our dismay and condemn in unmistaken
terms the opposition All Progressive Congress, APC, moving its national
secretariat to Osun State and its subsequent directive to leaders of the party from
other parts of the country to relocate to Osun State in an election that should
be primarily the business of citizens of that state.
“This development in our estimation is capable of heightening
tensions in the state and promoting lawlessness, mayhem and anarchy. This underscores
why President Goodluck Jonathan must do everything humanly possible to provide
adequate security to protect the lives and property of the people of Osun State
before, during and after the poll.
“We dare to say that the action of the APC and its leaders
is an indication of political rascality, intolerance, immaturity and
desperation to cling to power at all cost not minding the desires, and
inalienable rights of the people of Osun State to elect leaders of their choice
freely, and without fear or favour. It is a ploy to intimidate and induce
prospective voters, and as such should be opposed, and resisted by all lovers
of democracy”
We appeal to politicians in Osun State to play by the rules
and shun acts that may derail the peace needed for the smooth conduct of the governorship
election, especially from making provocative utterances capable of inflaming
passions or engaging in acts capable of disrupting the electoral process.
The NSCI urges the citizens of the state to be law-abiding
before, during and after the election and cooperate with INEC and security
personnel drafted to the state for the purpose of maintaining law and order as
well as resist attempts by desperate politicians and enemies of the state to
manipulate the outcome of the poll.

The INEC and security agencies should ensure the philosophy of the FG on 'one man, one vote' is implemented to the latter not minding the desperate antics of the APC. Threats by political parties doesn't equate to votes...but only shows the level of immaturity of people in such a party.
ReplyDeleteEvery political party with a gubernatorial candidate should play by the rules of the game as layed down by INEC & let peace rain afterwards pls.
ReplyDeleteI quite agree...I mean why in the world would you try to instigate people to cause chaos at an election? It's just terrible. Moving your Secretariat doesn't even ensure you success at the polls. I think INEC should be more vigilant in monitoring this election. We cannot afford for political manoeuvrings and underhanded tactics to mar this election.
ReplyDeleteAlready, there are unconfirmed reports that two APC stalwarts are in security net for pre-election offences with one of them allegedly found to be in possession of 50, 000 thumb printed ballot papers. This calls for more vigilance from security agents to ensure the sanctity of the votes genuinely cast by voters.
ReplyDeleteIf indeed Aregbesola had done as he swore, the election would have been have won. The name calling and the threat from left, right and centre...firing from all holes, would not have been necessary. Some Nigerian politicians, (and the South West historically) are known to be volatile when they (particularly incumbents) loose elections and refuse to concede 'honourably'. Government's proactive measure should be seen as protecting the peace of Osun.
ReplyDeleteIt is not a Tug of War, a battle of who can kill who. It is a show of political maturity, a demonstration of advancement in Democracy that will take place in Osun state as they head to the Poll to elect who will be their Governor for the next four years. I condemn in strongest terms therefore, allegations upon allegations and provocative utterances etc from the APC to PDP, urging them to be mature and face tomorrow's election with strong spirit and be ready to accept defeat if defeated.
ReplyDeleteOkay...... so let the voting begin, #OsunDecides

ReplyDeletelet there be free and fair election in osun state just like ekiti state........#osundecide
DeleteI believe the election will be free and fair just like Anambra and Ekiti, INEC and our security agencies should not allow themselves to be distracted by this Janjaweed party! (APC) #OmisoreOnMyMind
ReplyDeleteIts good to know that the election was free and fair, it was violence free and the present administration is making progress in ensuring that we have a better Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteI thank God for the success of Democracy in Osun State. Congratulations to the Government of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
